The Sandwich Plus Container

As you may (or may not) know, I usually take my lunch to school and work in a 1989 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles lunchbox stuffed with tupperware and plastic bags. It gets the job done and is fun to look at (Turtles! Donatello was always my favorite), but all those extra bits of plastic are anything but environmentally friendly. Plus it takes up way too much room in my bag, and that's a big drawback considering all the crap I have to take to school. So I was in the market for something new.

I've been lusting after a Laptop Lunchbox (of Vegan Lunchbox fame) for a while, but it's kind of pricey and not a whole lot smaller than what I use now. The other item I had my eye on was the Sandwich Plus Container from the Container Store. It's substaintially cheaper even with shipping, so I went ahead and ordered two - one for me and one for The Boy.

Basically it's a double-decker container with dividers in the bottom half. You put your snacks in the bottom, close the inner lid, put your sandwich or whatever on top and close the whole thing up. Pretty simple and self-explanatory. It's bigger than I thought it would be from the picture on the website, but it's definitely smaller than my lunchbox and it fits quite nicely in my bag. It's made of sturdy, clear-ish plastic and definitely keeps my lunch safe from falling rocks or stampeding miniature elephants.

The one downside is that you can't really put wet foods in it. I mean, I haven't tried it out myself but it just seems like it wouldn't work very well. Something like pasta salad or rice pilaf would probably be fine, though.

I give the Sandwich Plus Container a 9. Minus one point for lack of wet food storage ability, but an excellent container on all other fronts.

That thing is nifty. I usually carry my Tupperware and assorted lunch stuffs in a brown bag, I’m so old school. But I do reuse my plastic baggies and recycle the brown bags when they get too beat up to reuse.

I love brown paper bags! I'm always afraid they'll get squished, though, since whatever I take for lunch ends up at the bottom of my bag wil 12 pounds of art supplies piled on top. Kudos for reusing the baggies. I try to do that, but usually I'm too lazy or just forget. This way I don't have to worry about it.

Ooh, I think I may have to get me one of these. I considered a laptop lunchbox but I dislike having to carry around my purse as well as arm loads of extra junk. And I can't shell out the clams for one of those at the moment.

I hate carrying more than one bag! Often I have to anyway, so adding an extra lunch bag on top of that would be really suck. I like this because it's compact.

I saw these at Target last week and was sorely tempted.

They have them at Target?!?!?!? I didn't even think to check there! Ack. I hate unnecessary shipping costs.

I think I'll keep an eye out for these at my target trip next weekend (the demi annual trip for necessities such as water filters, stockings, and a minimal amount of crap) - is it seriously 3.49??
I showed my boyfriend the promo picture and he actually wants one too - awesome.

I love Target. And it love the wallety part of me quite a lot in return. I'd be better off if I went less often, but man... Target. Everything is so cute. The container is seriously just $3.49 - on the website, anyway. I don't know how much it would be at Target. I hope you find them!

Thanks for this wonderful idea... I am going to buy 2 right now also. One for The Boy too! Thanks for sharing.

i've been looking all over for another one! thank you for doing my work for me. :-)

eatpeaceplease - Awesome! I hope you like them!

supercarrot - You're welcome! I wish they came in sweet colors like yours.

The ones at Target are $3.99 and come in see-through blue and see-through green. Just an FYI :-) I got one earlier....but I can't actually put a sandwich in there until after Passover is over. D'oh!

Awesome, thanks for letting me know. :) I'll have to look for them next time I'm there. It couldn't hurt to have a backup.

I want one too! it looks cool. Perhaps it would force me to have more fruit/veg snakcs. Although, I like my apple on the core.
